Emergencies don’t wait for professionals—and often the first person on scene is a bystander. The Initial Responder course empowers everyday individuals to understand foundations of emergency systems, recognize emergencies, protect themselves, and take confident, lifesaving action in the critical minutes before advanced help arrives. This hands-on or virtual, class focuses on practical skills for real-world situations. Participants learn how to assess a scene, activate emergency services, provide immediate care, and support a patient until professional responders take over. Topics include: -Scene safety and situational awareness -Recognizing medical and traumatic emergencies -Primary patient assessment and critical decision-making -Bleeding control and shock management -Communication, teamwork, and effective handoff to EMS The Initial Responder course is ideal for community members, educators, outdoor leaders, volunteers, and workplace teams. It also serves as a strong foundation or entry point for further training in CPR/First Aid, Wilderness First Aid (WFA), or Emergency Response pathways. No prior medical training is required.
